For pipelines buried underground, a covering of protective metal is provided to save it. In some places a pipeline would consist of a DC power source, which is often an AC powered rectifier and an anode, or array of anodes buried in the ground. The positive DC output terminal would be connected via cables to the anode array, while another cable would connect the negative terminal of the rectifier to the pipeline, preferably through junction boxes. Some companies produce pipelines embedded with aluminum or other metal anode bracelets as anodes to carry out cathodic protection. Therefore, cathodic protection for pipelines is an efficient way to protect corrosion.
